WHO WE ARE
The mission of Christian Clearing House (CCH) is to provide emergency assistance to our neighbors in Hancock County who are facing financial, emotional, or spiritual needs.
CCH is a non-profit organization formed as an association of churches. We collaborate with local agencies and community partners to promote the effective use of available resources. Along with area churches, more than 52 member congregations. CCH is governed by a Board of Directors and supported by a small paid staff and a dedicated team of volunteers. Funding is made possible through donations, fundraising efforts, and grants.
By combining the resources of our member congregations, CCH is able to assist Hancock County residents who are homeless, unemployed, disabled, working in low-wage jobs, or experiencing an unexpected financial crisis. When appropriate, CCH may provide limited assistance with needs such as food, rent, utilities, medical prescriptions, gasoline, and other essential expenses.
Founded in 1994, CCH began when 13 local churches united around a shared Christian calling to help those in need. Today, CCH continues to serve as a true “clearing house,” offering vouchers and pledges while working closely with local social service agencies through coordinated referrals.
WHAT WE DO
CCH helps when people have nowhere to turn. Those using services at CCH are struggling with generational poverty, abuse, loss of a job, living on limited income, etc. Approximately 25% of those seeking assistance have never used the services at CCH, the needs are many.
As a non-governmental agency, CCH can support people who do not qualify for government assistance. Along with our short-term help, we work with our clients to curb the abuse of the “system” and identify opportunities and programs to help them become self-sustaining.
CCH staff and volunteers offer long-term solutions for living on fixed incomes to help alleviate the financial burden they encounter. These solutions are typically referrals and necessary forms for other community programs. If another community program can better assist the referral is made.
“CCH offers hand-ups, not hand-outs.”

HOW IT WORKS:
Individuals experiencing an emergency who reside in Hancock County should contact the CCH office by visiting in person or calling 419-422-2222. Staff will assess the nature and extent of the emergency and determine the appropriate course of action.
If other community resources or social service agencies are better suited to meet the client’s needs, applicants will be referred accordingly.
During the interview process, CCH will also help identify and clarify additional challenges expressed by the applicant and recommend appropriate services. Following evaluation and verification, CCH may provide a voucher or pledge to help meet the need when no other resources are available.
Financial contributions from the community are always needed. Client needs continue to increase, and our budget must grow to meet those demands.
